Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Giants are 3-point favorites to beat the Redskins. The total, meanwhile, sits at 40.5 points. As of this writing, 66% of the public betting tickets are on the Giants to cover the point spread.
New York Giants
Odell Beckham (quad) is out for Week 14 against the Redskins. Beckham was limited on Friday but wasn’t even listed on the team’s final injury report. Unable to travel with the team to Washington, the Giants will now lean on some combination of Sterling Shepard, Russell Shepard, Bennie Fowler, Jawill Davis, and Corey Coleman in three-wide sets. Saquon Barkley will likely become Eli Manning’s go-to option, as the rookie’s 91 targets (21% target share) are second on the team behind Beckham’s 124 (28%). Shepard also suddenly enters the conversation as a WR3 since he averaged nine targets (6/73) and 14.4 fantasy points in seven games without ODB last year.
Washington Redskins
Josh Doctson (hip) is questionable for Week 14 against the Giants. Despite all of Washington’s surrounding injuries, Doctson has helped keep some semblance of explosiveness alive with his downfield usage the past few weeks. He’ll likely play, but he’s merely a shot in the dark with Mark Sanchez under center ROS.
NFL Betting Trends
New York
The Giants are 3-13-1 against the spread in their last 17 games coming off an ATS win.
Washington
The Redskins have covered the spread in four of their last five games at home.
Prediction
The Giants have been a solid team on the road this year, covering the spread in all five of their games away from East Rutherford. While missing Beckham hurts, the Redskins are down to third-string quarterback Mark Sanchez following season-ending injuries to Alex Smith and Colt McCoy. As he proved on Monday night in their loss to the Eagles, Sanchez doesn’t know Jay Gruden’s playbook yet and as long as the Giants stop the run they should win and cover as a road favorite.
