NFL Week 13 Betting Recap

NFL Week 13: Patriots, Vikings & Rams Cash Again for Bettors 12/4/17

A handful of teams continue to cover at a great clip for bettors, including the New England Patriots, Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams. Here is your Week 13 NFL betting recap.

Favorites vs. Underdogs

Favorites have been on a historic run in Las Vegas but the betting action was more or less even in Week 13. Seven favorites covered the point spread on Sunday while seven underdogs cashed (eight if you count Dallas' ATS win on Thursday night). The biggest favorite in Week 13 was the Chargers, who were 13.5-point home favorites according to oddsmakers from online sports book They failed to cover in their 19-10 win over the Browns.

A total of six underdogs won outright in Week 13, including the Dolphins, 49ers, Cowboys, Vikings, Seahawks and Jets. Minnesota has been a public favorite all season, as has New England and the Rams. The Patriots and Rams both covered their respective spreads as sizable road favorites.

Overs vs. Unders

The totals were nearly evenly split as well. Eight unders hit, while seven overs cashed, including the Cowboys' 38-14 victory over the Redskins on Thursday night. The highest total on the board in Week 13 was in the New England-Buffalo game, which fell well under the 49 points posted by oddsmakers. The Patriots won 23-3 as Tom Brady was held in check and New England's defense dominated Buffalo's lifeless offense.

The lowest total, meanwhile, cashed an under. That total was set at 41 for the Colts-Jaguars game in Jacksonville. The Jags won 30-10 as both teams combined for just one field goal in the final 15 minutes of the game.

How Did the Public Do?

Pretty well, all things considered. The Patriots received 77% of the betting tickets for Sunday and they covered as an 8.5-point road favorite versus the Bills. The Packers, who received 75% of bets, also covered as a 3-point home favorite versus the Bucs. The Rams also covered against the Cardinals as a 7.5-point favorite while receiving 72% of the tickets.

The team that hurt public bettors the most was the Eagles, who lost outright as a 3.5-point road favorite versus the Seahawks on Sunday night. Philadelphia received 67% of the betting tickets ahead of last night's game but the Eagles were shut down by Seattle's defense.

Monday Night Football

The Bengals will host the Steelers for Monday Night Football at 8:30 p.m. ET. Cincinnati opened as a 6.5-point home underdog but the line moved to 4.5 before jumping back up to 5, which is where it is as of this writing. As for the total, the number hit the board at 43 and that's where it currently sits.
