Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers at BetNow.eu, the Bears are the favorite on the road, as they are getting odds of -3.5 points against the Giants. The over/under total for the contest is currently listed at 44.5 points. The public betting for this contest currently has 61 percent going on the Bears on the road.
Giants coming off close loss
The New York Giants had their brief two-game win streak come to an end last weekend in a 25-22 loss at Philadelphia. The Giants are now 3-8 on the season, 5-5-1 against the spread and 6-5 with the under. They are 3-1-1 against the spread in their last five games.
The big problem this year for New York has been on defense. The Giants are giving up 26.2 points and 377.8 yards per game. Both rank in the bottom third of the NFL. Offensively, New York is putting up 21.5 points and 351.3 yards per contest. The team has an impressive rookie in Saquon Barkley. He has rushed for 829 yards and eight touchdowns while catching 71 passes for 581 yards and four scores. Odell Beckham Jr. has added 74 receptions for 1,017 yards and five touchdowns. Eli Manning has thrown for 3,093 yards and 14 touchdowns with seven interceptions. He has been sacked 38 times.
Bears win without Trubisky
Despite being without Mitchell Trubisky last week on Thanksgiving, the Bears still won their fifth straight game, earning a 23-16 win at Detroit. The Bears are 8-3 on the season, 8-3 against the spread and 7-4 with the over. They have covered the spread in all five wins of this current streak.
Chicago has one of the top defenses in the NFL right now. They are second in defensive scoring (19.2 ppg) and fourth in total defense (316.1 ypg). Their run defense is also second in the NFL (80.8 ypg). When it comes to offense, the Bears put up 28.8 points per game despite averaging just 349.4 yards per contest. Trubisky has thrown for 2,469 yards and 20 touchdowns while rushing for 363 yards and three more scores. He is battling a shoulder injury and not expected to suit up today. Chase Daniel will likely get his second start. Daniel threw for 230 yards and two touchdowns against the Lions. Jordan Howard is leading the offense with 536 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
NFL Betting Trends
New York
The Giants are 0-4-1 against the spread in their last five home games and 2-13-1 ATS in their last 16 following a cover.
Chicago
The Bears have covered in four straight conference games and in seven of their last 10 in December.
Prediction:
The Bears aren’t likely to be as dangerous on offense this week with Daniel getting a start outdoors, but the Chicago defense is still very dangerous, especially against a QB like Eli that tends to hold onto the ball too long in the pocket. New York has had some momentum as of late, but the spread is small and I can see the Giants making costly turnovers in the second half to allow the Bears to get the win and cover. Chicago is on a nice run and I am going to ride them while they are hot.
NFL Prediction: Chicago Bears -3.5
