Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Titans are 8-point favorites to beat the Jets. The total, meanwhile, sits at 40.5 points. As of this writing, 61% of the public betting tickets are on the Titans to cover the point spread.
New York Jets
Sam Darnold (foot) said he is “hopeful” he will play this week. Darnold practiced for the first time since Week 9 on Wednesday. “Coming back after today and actually practicing on it, being on it today and cutting and doing my drops, it’ll be interesting to see how it feels [Thursday],” Darnold said. “I’m pretty optimistic about it though.” The Jets will likely play it safe with the rookie, but there is at least a chance he returns to the starting lineup this week.
Tennessee Titans
Marcus Mariota completed 22-of-23 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns in the Titans’ 34-17, Week 12 loss to the Texans on Monday night. Mariota completed his first 19 passes of the night, channeling his inner Philip Rivers who set the record with 25 straight completions on Sunday Mariota didn’t have his first incompletion until there was 1:06 left in the fourth quarter. He finished with a near-perfect 147.7 passer rating and threw 61- and 48-yard touchdown passes to Jonnu Smith and Corey Davis, respectively. Smith did all the work on his, racking up a ton of YAC as he went almost untouched to the end zone after not being covered. Davis’ ball was a deep shot down the right side. He was wide open. Mariota added 28 rushing yards. One of the most unpredictable players at the position, Mariota can pop up for big games in random spots and totally bottom out in perceived good matchups. This offense is bipolar as a whole. Mariota will get the Jets at home in Week 13.
NFL Betting Trends
New York
The under is 6-2 in the Jets’ last eight games when facing an opponent that owns a losing record.
Tennessee
The under is 4-0 in the Titans’ last four games after accumulating more than 250 yards passing in their previous game.
Prediction
The Jets, whether it’s Darnold under center or the banged-up Josh McCown (back, hand), will have difficulties moving the ball against this stout Tennessee defense. The Titans had an off night versus Deshaun Watson and Lamar Miller on Monday night, but they should rebound. Meanwhile, the Jets aren’t great defensively, but the Titans are averaging just 17.7 points per game this season, which ranks 29th in the league. This is going to be an ugly game.
NFL Week 13 Prediction: Jets/Titans under 40.5
