Jaguars vs. Lions Prediction
Can the Detroit Lions maintain their spot atop the NFC North when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars today at 1PM ET?
According to the oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Lions are favored at home tonight, as they are getting odds of -6.5 points against the Jaguars. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 47.5 points. Jacksonville has won three of the last four meetings with Detroit, covering the spread in all three wins.
Detroit is coming off a 22-16 OT win at Minnesota two weeks ago to move to 5-4 on the season and against the spread. They have covered in four of their last five, surging to the top of the division thanks to the struggles of the Vikings and Packers lately. The Detroit offense is averaging 22.8 points and 350.4 yards per game, but that’s not due to the play of Matthew Stafford. The veteran QB is having an MVP-type season, throwing for 2,373 yards and 18 touchdowns with only five interceptions. Marvin Jones is the leading receiver with 37 receptions for 661 yards and four scores. Defensively, Detroit is giving up 22.9 points and 379.1 yards per game. The Lions have struggled against the pass, allowing 272.1 yards per contest. The Lions do have a respectable defensive front, racking up 20 sacks this season. Kerry Hyder is leading the charge with 7 sacks.
Jacksonville is coming off a 24-21 loss to Houston at home last week. The Jags are now 2-7 on the season and 4-5 against the spread. They have failed to cover in three of their last four games. The Jacksonville defense is giving up 26.6 points and 339 yards per game this season. Offensively, Jacksonville is putting up just 19.3 points and 357.1 yards per game. They also struggle to run the ball, putting up just 88.1 yards per game. Blake Bortles has thrown for 2,421 yards and 16 touchdowns, but also has 11 interceptions and a pair of fumbles.
This is a spot Lions’ fans know well. The team seems to have momentum and could be making a playoff charge, only to fall flat on their face at home against a very beatable opponent. The Lions haven’t had any easy games this year, as all five of their wins have been through a fourth-quarter comeback. Though Jacksonville is bad, history says Detroit will keep this game interesting whether they win or lose.
