Lions vs. Jaguars Pick
Will the Detroit Lions be able to put up a big number on the Jacksonville Jaguars when they meet up on Sunday at 1PM ET?
According to the oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Lions are favored at home tonight, as they are getting odds of -6.5 points against the Jaguars. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 47 points. Jacksonville has won three of the last four meetings with Detroit and the two have hit the over in four straight.
Detroit is coming off the bye week, but they picked up a 22-16 OT win at Minnesota prior to that. The Lions are 5-4 on the year and have the NFC North lead right now while going 5-4 with the under. The offense is averaging 22.8 points and 350.4 yards per game. The run game is struggling with just 86.8 rushing yards per contest. Matthew Stafford has had an MVP-type season, throwing for 2,373 yards and 18 touchdowns with only five interceptions. Marvin Jones is the leading receiver with 37 receptions for 661 yards and four scores. Defensively, Detroit is giving up 22.9 points and 379.1 yards per game. The Lions have struggled against the pass, allowing 272.1 yards per contest. The Lions do have a respectable defensive front, racking up 20 sacks this season. Kerry Hyder is leading the charge with 7 sacks.
Jacksonville is coming off a 24-21 loss to Houston at home last week. The Jags are now 2-7 on the season and 6-3 with the over. The overs are hitting because Jacksonville is giving up 26.6 points per game. It’s a high number considering they are allowing just 339 yards per contest. Offensively, Jacksonville is putting up just 19.3 points and 357.1 yards per game. They also struggle to run the ball, putting up just 88.1 yards per game. Blake Bortles has thrown for 2,421 yards and 16 touchdowns, but also has 11 interceptions and a pair of fumbles.
The total is set high as most expect this to be a shootout, but the Lions and Jaguars lack of a running game should cause some difficult scoring drives. Even though Jacksonville gives up plenty of points, they allow a limited amount of yards. The Detroit defense has struggled, but they are getting some key players back, most notably Darius Slay. He should help keep Jacksonville from doing much scoring.
