Cardinals vs. 49ers Prediction
Will the Cardinals hand the winless 49ers their ninth loss of the season this afternoon in Santa Clara?
Who: Cardinals (3-4) at 49ers (0-8)
When: 4:05 p.m. ET, Sunday, November 5
Where: Levi's Stadium, Santa Clara, CA
Who Oddsmakers Like: Arizona. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Cardinals are 2.5-point road favorites to beat the Niners, who opened as a 1-point underdog. As for the total, the number hit the board at 39 but has been bet up a half-point to 39.5.
Who the Public Likes: Arizona. As of this writing, just under 60% of tickets are on the Cardinals minus the points.
Who the Trends Like: San Francisco and the under. The underdog has covered in six of the last eight meetings between these two teams while the under has cashed in five of the last seven meetings.
Who We Like: Arizona. Welcome to the worst matchup in Week 9, folks. The Cardinals will play without David Johnson and Carson Palmer, while the 49ers will start disastrous rookie C.J. Beathard for another week while Jimmy Garoppolo tries to learn Kyle Shanahan's playbook. Yikes.
Here's a fun fact for ya: Drew Stanton is actually 8-5 as a starter. That's right, Drew Stanton is a winner. He's 6-3 when he's had to step in for Palmer and 6-3 under Bruce Arians. Stanton has also led the Cardinals to four wins in six chances against divisional opponents, so it's not as if he's been a total disaster.
I guess what I'm saying is that I trust Stanton more than Beathard, who turned a competitive 49ers team into one that didn't compete in back-to-back losses versus Dallas and Philadelphia the last two weeks. The Cardinals will lean on ageless ones Adrian Peterson and Larry Fitzgerald and should pick up a win this afternoon.
