Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Dolphins are 3-point favorites to beat the Jets. The total, meanwhile, sits at 43.5 points. As of this writing, 62% of the public betting tickets are on the Dolphins to cover the point spread.
New York Jets
Robby Anderson (ankle) remained sidelined on Thursday. A Friday return would have Anderson on track to play against the Dolphins, but it is unlikely. With Quincy Enunwa (ankle) also still sidelined, it is going to be another undermanned week for Sam Darnold.
Brock Osweiler will start Week 9 against the Jets. Ryan Tannehill (shoulder) has been ruled out. This will be Osweiler's fourth straight start. He's 1-2 after surprising against the Bears in Week 6 before bottoming out against the Texans last Thursday night. Osweiler will be a bottom-of-the-barrel option in two-quarterback leagues in a home game.
NFL Betting Trends
The over is 4-1 in the Jets’ last five games overall and 9-4 in their last 13 games coming off a loss.
The over is 4-0 in the Dolphins’ last four home games but 4-1 in their last five games against the rest of the AFC East.
I don’t trust either of these offensive lines to keep their quarterbacks upright and thus, I expect the scoring to be kept low. The Jets, like most teams that travel to South Beach and are forced to bake in the sun on the visitor’s sidelines, will likely wear down in the second half. If the Dolphins get a lead with Osweiler at the helm I expect Adam Gase to run the ball a bunch in the second half with Kenyan Drake and Frank Gore in efforts to bleed clock, making the under a solid play.
NFL Week 9 Prediction: Jets/Dolphins under 43.5
