Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Texans are 7.5-point favorites to beat the Dolphins. The total, meanwhile, sits at 44.5 points. As of this writing, 59% of the public betting tickets are on the Texans to cover the point spread.
Miami Dolphins
Danny Amendola (shoulder) has been removed from the Week 8 injury report and will play Thursday night against the Texans. In Brock Osweiler’s two starts, Amendola has 14 catches for 143 yards and a touchdown on 18 targets. He’s in the WR3 mix this week with Kenny Stills (groin) out and Albert Wilson (hip) sent to injured reserve.
Houston Texans
DeAndre Hopkins (foot) was removed from the Week 8 injury report. Hopkins was limited in practice all week, but his status was never in doubt. Even with Hopkins facing shadow coverage from Xavien Howard, he remains a locked-in WR1.
NFL Betting Trends
Miami
The Dolphins are 7-18-1 against the spread in their last 26 games after allowing more than 30 points in their previous game.
Houston
The Texans are 3-10 against the number in their last 13 games after allowing less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game.
Prediction
This feels like a lot of points to lay on a Houston team that has benefited from either poor play or poor coaching from its opponents the past four weeks. That said, the Dolphins are traveling on a short week, are banged-up at receiver and have struggled on the road under Adam Gase (1-7 against the spread in their last eight games away from Miami). We have yet to see Brock Osweiler truly blow up yet and that could be coming tonight against a Houston defense that is playing well after some early-season struggles.
NFL Week 8 Prediction: Houston Texans -7 (buy the hook)
