Dolphins in a funk
Miami started the year with three wins, but has since lost back-to-back road games to the Patriots and Bengals by double-digits each. The Dolphins are now 3-2 overall, 3-2 against the spread and 3-2 with the under. Miami is 2-0 against the spread at home.
Miami has been struggling on offense most of the season, averaging just 19.8 points and 307.8 yards per game. Their rushing attack averages just 96 yards per game. Ryan Tannehill has thrown for 972 yards with eight touchdowns and five interceptions to lead the unit. He is dealing with a shoulder injury that has him listed as questionable to play today, though he was able to practice during the week. Frank Gore is the leading rusher with 202 yards on 47 carries. Defensively, Miami is giving up 23.4 points and 393.2 yards per game. Their pass defense is allowing 285 yards per game. They were without Cameron Wake last weekend because of a knee injury and he is doubtful to suit up today. Miami does have 10 interceptions as a team this year, but only have eight sacks.
Bears coming off bye
The Bears didn’t go into the bye week at a great time as they were red hot, riding a three-game win streak to get to 3-1 on the season. Chicago is also 3-1 against the spread while going 2-2 with the over/under total. The Bears are 1-1 ATS on the road.
Chicago has really turned it up on defense this year with the addition of Khalil Mack at linebacker. As a unit, Chicago is holding opponents to just 16.3 points and 321.8 yards per game. Their run defense is giving up only 64 yards per game. Mack alone has five sacks, an interception and four forced fumbles in four games. As a team, Chicago has 18 sacks with eight interceptions and eight forced fumbles. On Offense, Chicago is putting up 27.8 points and 357.8 yards per game. Mitchell Trubisky has thrown for 945 yards and eight touchdowns while Jordan Howard has 203 rushing yards and a touchdown.
NFL Betting Trends
Miami
Miami has covered the spread in four of its last five at home but is 1-6-1 ATS in its last eight games following a loss.
Chicago
The Bears are 9-4-1 against the spread in their last 14 games against a winning team, but 0-4 ATS in their last four after a bye.
Prediction:
The Miami offense has been struggling lately against two defenses that haven’t exactly been locked in this year. Now it faces a defense in Chicago that creates a lot of havoc. I think the Dolphins and Tannehill are going to have a lot of issues. Miami is also banged up on defense, so that could allow Chicago to put together some scoring drives at some point. Ultimately, Chicago’s defense should lead it to another road win.
NFL Prediction: Chicago Bears -4
