Public Bettors backing Panthers
Public bettors aren't shying away from backing the Panthers over the Bucs on Monday night, despite the fact Cam Newton won't play.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Panthers have gone from -4.5 to -6 tonight against the Buccaneers, while the over/under currently sits at 45.5 points. Even with Newton out and Derek Anderson starting under center for the defending NFC champions, 54% of public bettors are currently laying the points with Carolina.
Newton exited the Panthers' loss to the Falcons last Sunday in the second half after suffering from concussion symptoms. He has already been ruled out for tonight's game, as has left tackle Michael Oher (concussion), cornerback James Bradberry (toe) and running back Jonathan Stewart (hamstring). Defensive end Charles Johnson is also questionable, while linebacker Thomas Davis and receiver Devin Funchess are probable.
For the Bucs, cornerback Brent Grimes is questionable with a hamstring injury, as are linebacker Lavonte David (undisclosed), receiver Cecil Shorts
(hamstring), and defensive end Robert Ayers (ankle). Gerald McCoy (calf), Noah Spence (shoulder), Doug Martin (hamstring) and Charles Sims (knee) are all doubtful for the struggling Buccaneers.
The favorite is 13-4 against the spread in the last 17 meetings between these two teams while the road squad has covered in five of the last seven meetings. The Bucs, meanwhile, have failed to cover in five of their last six games versus the Panthers while the under has cashed in 11 of the last 16 meetings between these two teams in Carolina.
