Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Saints are 6-point favorites to beat the Redskins. The total, meanwhile, sits at 51.5 points. As of this writing, 57% of the public betting tickets are on the Saints to cover the point spread.
Washington Redskins
Adrian Peterson (ankle) was removed from the Week 5 injury report. Peterson was rested Wednesday, but practiced the last three days. He’s healthy coming off Washington’s bye and should see his normal workload. Peterson has a revenge narrative after getting traded from the Saints last year. He’s our RB21 for Week 5.
New Orleans Saints
Ted Ginn (knee) has been ruled out for Week 5 against the Redskins. Ginn has been playing through knee issues the past few games. He didn’t practice all week, so it sounds like there’s something more serious going on. It’s possible the Saints’ Week 6 bye played a role in Ginn sitting. Ginn’s absence will open up targets for Tre’Quan Smith and Cameron Meredith behind Michael Thomas.
NFL Betting Trends
Washington
The under is 6-1 in the Redskins’ last seven games overall and 15-6 in their last 21 road games.
New Orleans
The over is 5-2 in the Saints’ last seven games overall and 5-2 in their last seven home games.
Prediction
The Saints rank dead last in DVOA against the pass, are allowing 30.2 points per game and struggle with opponents’ running backs in pass defense. Chris Thompson could have a big night and while the Redskins don’t have the most explosive offense in the league, they can certainly move the ball with Alex Smith and Co. On the other side, Washington has an underrated defense through three weeks but we know Drew Brees, Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara will not be shut down, especially at home. The over is a perfect 5-0 in the last five meetings between these two teams.
NFL Week 5 Prediction: Redskins/Saints over 51.5
