Raiders vs. Chargers Pick

Are our experts picking the Raiders to cover against the Chargers?

Can the Oakland Raiders pick up their first home win of the season when they host the San Diego Chargers this Sunday at 4:25PM ET?

According to the oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Raiders are favored at home, as they are getting odds of -3.5 points against the Chargers. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 49.5 points. Oakland has won the last two meetings with the Chargers and they are 5-2 against the spread in the last seven of this series.

The Raiders return home after starting 3-1 on the season with 3 road victories, including a 28-27 win at Baltimore last week. The Raiders are also 3-1 against the spread. Oakland is 3-1 despite a defense that is giving up 26.5 points and 467.3 yards per game. The Raiders have given up 332.8 passing yards per game which ranks last in the NFL right now. Even with the defensive issues, the offense has been able to carry the team by putting up 27 points per game. Derek Carr has thrown for 1,066 yards and nine touchdowns to lead the unit while Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree each have over 300 yards receiving.

Bet on Chargers vs. Raiders

San Diego is coming off a 35-34 loss to the Saints last week at home. They are now 1-3 on the season and 2-2 against the spread. Like Oakland, San Diego has a great offense but a questionable defense. Defensively, the Chargers are giving up 27 points and 307.5 passing yards per game. On offense, San Diego is putting up 30.3 points per game, which ranks third in the NFL. Philip Rivers has thrown for 1,110 yards and seven touchdowns to lead the way while Melvin Gordon has rushed for 230 yards and six scores.

The Raiders still have some questions to answer to prove they are a legit playoff contender, but if they are, this is a must-win at home. The Raiders should definitely be able to score points on San Diego, but can their defense stop Rivers? San Diego doesn’t have the same weapons as Oakland on offense, so I don’t see the Chargers being able to keep up the scoring pace with the Raiders. Look for Oakland to win at home and win with some comfort level.
