Raiders get first win
The Raiders started the Jon Gruden-era Part II on a slow start, losing their first three games. However, they were able to earn a 45-42 OT win over the Browns last week at home. Oakland is now 1-3 overall, 2-2 against the spread and 2-2 with the over/under total.
Oakland is having a strong offensive year so far, averaging 452 yards per game. Although, it is resulting in just 24.3 points per game. Derek Carr has thrown for 1,373 yards and six touchdowns, but also has seven interceptions. Tight end Jared Cook has 26 catches for 370 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, Marshawn Lynch has rushed for 300 yards and three scores. Defensively, Oakland is one of the worst in the NFL. The Raiders are giving up 30.8 points and 412 yards per game. The trading of Khalil Mack appears to be haunting them as the Oakland defense has just five sacks.
Chargers edge 49ers
Los Angeles came into the season with some big expectations, but are off to a 2-2 start after a narrow win at home over San Francisco last week. The Chargers are 1-3 against the spread and 4-0 with the over. Dating back to the preseason, Los Angeles has hit the over in seven straight games.
The Chargers are having success on offense, averaging 27.8 points and 413.8 yards per game. Philip Rivers is having another great season so far, throwing for 1,156 yards and 11 touchdowns with just two interceptions. Melvin Gordon has run for 276 yards and two scores and also has 199 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, the Chargers are struggling, allowing 30 points and 397.5 yards per game, including 288.3 yards per game through the air. The unit continues to be without top pass rusher, Joey Bosa, who is dealing with a foot injury and is out until November.
NFL Betting Trends
Oakland
The Raiders have hit the under in nine of their last 11 overall and in four of their last five road games.
Los Angeles
The Chargers have hit the under in 10 of their last 13 conference games and in five of their last six AFC West games.
Prediction:
While both teams seem to have the offense and defense for this game to be out of control, they have hit the under in their last three meetings. Anytime you have familiar opponents, the offense is likely to have some struggles at times. I think both teams will start slow on offense before things start to open up in the second half. However, that slow start will lead to the two going under the big total.
NFL Prediction: Raiders/Chargers Under 52.5
