Jaguars vs. Jets Total Pick
Can the Jacksonville Jaguars put on another dominant defensive performance when they hit the road to face the New York Jets on Sunday at 1PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Jaguars are the slight favorite on the road, as they are getting odds of -3 points against the Jets. The over/under total for the game has been set at just 38 points. The Jets have won three straight meetings with Jacksonville and the two have hit the over in four of their last six encounters. Sunday’s game takes place from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey and will air live on CBS.

The Jaguars are 2-1 on the season, with the two wins being dominant defensive showings against the Texans and Ravens, where they held each to just 7 points. Despite that, Jacksonville has hit the over in two of the three games. The Jacksonville defense is allowing just 17 points and 283 yards per game on the season, with the pass defense giving up just 147.7 yards per contest. The unit also has 13 sacks and eight turnovers through three games. Calais Campbell has 4.5 sacks to lead the team. Offensively, The Jags are averaging 29.7 points and 337.3 yards per game. Their run game has been the strength behind 199 yards from rookie Leonard Fournette, who also has three touchdowns. Blake Bortles has thrown for 592 yards and six touchdowns with two interceptions.
The Jets are 1-2 to start the season following a 20-6 win at home over the Dolphins last week. New York is 2-1 with the under so far, as they are averaging just 17.3 points and 289.7 yards per game on offense this season. Not helping matters is leading rusher Matt Forte may not be able to play due to a toe injury. He was hurt last week and is listed as questionable right now. Forte has 94 rushing yards on 23 carries. Josh McCown has thrown for 602 yards and three touchdowns this year, but also has two interceptions. On defense, the Jets are allowing 24 points and 358 yards per game. Their run defense is giving up 133 yards per game.
The total is set low as both teams have questionable offenses while their defenses can lock in, especially Jacksonville. It’s hard to know what happened last week against the Ravens, as the Jags were unreal on defense and put up a huge number on a good Baltimore defense. I don’t expect that kind of scoring to continue, but I do think the defense will keep the Jets down. I don’t expect the Jets to do much on offense while their defense should be able to get some stops.
