Bears vs. Seahawks Total Prediction
The Chicago Bears will play a banged-up Seattle Seahawks team in Week 2 of Monday Night Football. Will the two teams combine for enough points to push the combined score over the betting total?
Game Snapshot
289 Seattle Seahawks at 2900 Chicago Bears
8:15 p.m. ET, Monday, September 17
Solider Field, Chicago, Illinois
Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Bears are 4.5-point favorites to beat the Seahawks. The total, meanwhile, sits at 42.5 points. As of this writing, 55% of the public betting tickets are on the Seahawks to cover the point spread.
Seattle Seahawks
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said CB Shaq Griffin (questionable, thigh) will play in Monday night’s game with Chicago. It’s good news for a secondary with multiple injuries. Seattle will be without LCB Tre Flowers (doubtful, hamstring), leaving Justin Coleman to start opposite Griffin. Akeem King and Neiko Thorpe will pick up snaps in sub packages.
Chicago Bears
Bears coach Matt Nagy said first-round LB Roquan Smith has earned more playing time. Coming off a hamstring injury, Smith logged just eight snaps in the opener but was highly effective, recording three tackles and a sack during that span. Smith also missed the early portion of training camp due to a contract dispute, though obviously he’s been a quick study. If the rookie sees more reps in Week 2, it could come at the expense of Nick Kwiatkoski.
NFL Betting Trends
Seattle
The over is 4-1 in the Seahawks’ last five games overall.
Chicago
The under is 6-1 in the Bears’ last seven games overall.
Prediction
The over is 8-1 in the last nine meetings between these two teams and is a perfect 6-0 in the last six meetings in Chicago. The Seahawks will be without key defenders Bobby Wagner and KJ Wright so the Bears should move the ball efficiently against this Seattle defense, which surrendered over 400 yards of total offense to the Broncos last week in Denver. Granted, the Seahawks are also banged-up offensively and will not have the services of Doug Baldwin. Still, Russell Wilson will put up numbers and find a way to score. He always does.
NFL Week 2 Prediction: Seahawks/Bears over 42.5
