Pittsburgh opened its 2017 season with a 21-18 win at Cleveland last weekend. The Steelers went under the 47-point total in the win. Pittsburgh didn’t look great on offense, tallying just 290 yards. One of their scores came on a blocked punt for a touchdown. The run game finished with just 35 yards on 17 carries as Le’Veon Bell was held to only 32 yards. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 263 yards with two touchdowns while Antonio Brown caught 11 passes for 182 yards. The Pittsburgh defense was led by T.J. Watt and Anthony Chickillo, who each had two sacks. The Steelers could be without defensive end Stephon Tuitt, as he suffered a biceps injury in the win over Cleveland and is listed questionable for Sunday’s game.
Minnesota started its season with a 29-19 win over the Saints at home on Monday night. The Vikings went over the 47.5-point total in the victory. While the Minnesota defense looked great in the win, holding the Saints to 344 total yards, the Vikings were quite strong on offense. Sam Bradford had one of the best games of his career, throwing for 346 yards and three touchdowns on 27-of-32 passing. He connected with Stefon Diggs for two scores while Adam Thielen hauled in 157 yards on nine catches. The run game was also impactful as Dalvin Cook rushed for 127 yards on 22 carries in his NFL debut.
This game seems to be sizing up to hit the under. Pittsburgh didn’t have much of an offense against Cleveland, so it’s hard to imagine the Steelers moving the ball much better against Minnesota. The Vikings looked good on offense last week, but that was against a notoriously bad New Orleans defense. Bradford isn’t likely to have such a high completion percentage at Pittsburgh. The Steelers have hit the under in 8 of their last 11 games on grass while Minnesota is 14-6-1 with the under in its last 21 on the road. Go with the low-scoring game.
