According to oddsmakers at GTBets, the Eagles are a slight favorite on the road, as they are getting odds of -3 points against the Falcons. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 54.5 points. The Falcons have won and covered the spread in two straight meetings with the Eagles and the two have hit the over in three straight meetings.

The Eagles were 10-6 last season and just missed out on the playoffs. Philadelphia was 9-7 against the spread while going 11-5 with the over last year. Chip Kelly is in his third year as head coach of the Eagles. He has gone 10-6 in each of his first two seasons. The team had a busy offseason in 2015, trading away running back LeSean McCoy for linebacker Kiko Alonso and then swapping out quarterback Nick Foles for Rams’ QB Sam Bradford. Philly also signed DeMarco Murray, last year’s leading rusher in the NFL. The team has looked good in the preseason, but it’s hard to know if it will translate to the regular season. Bradford has had back-to-back season-ending knee injuries, so his ability to stay on the field is questionable.

The Falcons were 6-10 last year, finishing third in the NFC South. Atlanta was 7-9 against the spread in 2014 while going 10-6 with the under. The Falcons cut ties with Mike Smith following the season and hired Seattle defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who is a head coach for the first time in his career. The Falcons had a great offense, just needed a lot of improvement on defense. Matt Ryan threw for 4,694 yards and 28 touchdowns last season and he brings back his top weapon in Julio Jones, who had 104 catches for 1,593 yards and six touchdowns in 2014. The team also drafted Tevin Coleman in hopes to bolster its run game.
