Rams vs. 49ers Odds
The opening week of the NFL season concludes tonight when the San Francisco 49ers host the Los Angeles Rams at 10:20PM ET. What’s the latest line for this contest?
According to the oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Rams are a road favorite in this game, as Los Angeles is getting odds of -2.5 points against the 49ers. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 42 points. The 49ers have won and covered the spread in four of their last six meetings with the Rams. These two have hit the under in four of their last five encounters.
The Rams were 7-9 last season, their final one in St. Louis. Now they are in Los Angeles and ready to start fresh. However, that fresh start won’t be with No. 1 pick Jared Goff. Instead, Case Keenum enters the season as the starting QB while Goff is No. 3 on the depth chart. Keenum played in six games last season, throwing for 828 yards and four touchdowns with one interception. Keenum has a great back to hand the ball to in Todd Gurley, who rushed for 1,106 yards and 10 touchdowns as a rookie. Despite giving up a lot of yards last season, the Rams have a defense that can apply pressure. The Rams had 41 sacks in 2015 and features stud tackle Aaron Donald, who had 11 sacks last season.
Coming off a 5-11 season in 2015, but 49ers have handed the franchise over to Chip Kelly, who was let go by the Eagles. Kelly has a lot of work to do with this offense, which averaged a league-worst 14.9 points per game in 2015 and also averaged just 303.8 yards per game. Blaine Gabbert remains the starting quarterback after throwing for 2,031 yards and 10 touchdowns with 7 interceptions last year. The team is hoping Carlos Hyde can stay healthy and be a feature back. Hyde had just 470 yards and three scores in 2015. The 49ers allowed 53 sacks last season as well while amassing just 28 as a defense. They also forced only 12 turnovers. San Francisco ranked 29th in overall defense last season, giving up 24.2 points and 387.4 yards per game.
