NFL Week 1 Point Spreads & Trends
The NFL will kick off its season on Thursday night when the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles host the Atlanta Falcons at 8:20 p.m. ET. Here’s a look at the Week 1 point spreads totals for key matchups.
451 Atlanta Falcons at 452 Philadelphia Eagles, 8:20 p.m. ET, Thursday
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Eagles are 2.5-point favorites to beat the Falcons. The total, meanwhile, sits at 45 points. As of this writing, 52% of the public betting tickets are on the Eagles to cover the point spread, although that number might flip with the news that Nick Foles will be starting.
The Falcons have been a horrendous play in this matchup, failing to cover the spread in four of their last five trips to Philadelphia. One of those losses came in last year’s Divisional Round, when the Falcons fell one yard short of potentially beating the Eagles and ending their Super Bowl run before it even got started.
465 Houston Texans at 466 New England Patriots, 1:00 p.m. ET, Sunday
These two teams played a highly entertaining game a year ago and will meet again on Sunday in New England. The Patriots are a 6.5-point home favorite to beat the Texans, who will have exciting quarterback Deshaun Watson back from injury. The total sits at 51 points for what should be a high-scoring game.
The over is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams while the home team is 7-2-1 against the spread in the last 10 meetings as well.
455 San Francisco 49ers at 456 Minnesota Vikings, 1:00 p.m. ET, Sunday
Jimmy Garappolo and the 49ers will begin their season in Minnesota on Sunday when they visit the Vikings at 1:00 p.m. ET. After opening as a 4.5-point home favorite, the Vikings are now -6 at the majority of sports books. The total sits at 46 points.
The under is 5-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams while the underdog covered in five of the previous six meetings.
461 Jacksonville Jaguars at 462 New York Giants, 1:00 p.m. ET, Sunday
The Saquon Barkley era will kick off Sunday when the New York Giants host the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags opened as 3.5-point road favorites but the number has been bet down to 3. The Jaguars are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games versus the Giants.
477 Chicago Bears at 478 Green Bay Packers, 8:20 p.m. ET, Sunday
The first Sunday Night Football game of the season will pit NFC North rivals against each other in Green Bay. The Packers opened as 8.5-point home favorites, but the line has been bet down to 7.5 at the majority of sportsbooks. The Bears made headlines over the weekend by acquiring pass-rusher Khalil Mack from the Raiders in exchange for two first-round picks. Aaron Rodgers’ job just got more difficult.
The Bears are 10-25-1 against the spread in their last 36 games against the Packers and are 2-5 against the number in their last seven games played in Green Bay.
481 Los Angeles Rams at 482 Oakland Raiders, 10:20 p.m. ET, Monday
The second game of Monday night’s doubleheader will pit the Rams against the Raiders, who begin the Jon Gruden era at home. The Rams opened as 2.5-point road favorites but are not 5-point favorites. Gruden traded his best defender Mack to the Bears over the weekend and is drawing criticism for the move. The Rams are 4-0 against the spread in their last four games versus the Raiders.
