Steelers impress in fourth quarter
Backups helped lead Pittsburgh to a 17-7 home victory last week in Week 2 of the preseason as it outscored Kansas City 10-0 in the fourth quarter. Joshua Dobbs led the aerial attack as he went 6-of-11 through the air for 95 yards and an interception. James Connor rushed six times for 28 yards, while Jaylen Samuels had four carries for 26 and a touchdown. James Washington made four receptions for 78 yards to pace the receiving corps. Diontae Johnson made three catches for 46 and a TD. Matthew Wright was 1-of-1 on field goal attempts as he made a 46-yarder. Tyler Matakevich led the defense with seven solo tackles.
Titans stumble in second half
Tennessee gave up 14 unanswered points in the second half last week as it lost 22-17 at home to New England in Week 2 of the preseason. Ryan Tannehill helped lead the way for the Titans offense as he finished 7-of-11 passing for 84 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. Alex Barnes paced the ground game with seven rushes for 42 yards. Cole Wick had three receptions for 42 yards, while Delanie Walker made two catches for 26 and a TD. Jeremy McNichols had three catches for 24 yards and a score. Austin Barnard missed his only field goal attempt, but did make his only extra-point try. David Long Jr. led the Tennessee defense with seven tackles (five solo), while Logan Ryan manufactured an interception.
NFL Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Steelers are 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games versus the AFC. The underdog is 10-3 ATS in the last 13 meetings.
Tennessee
The Titans are 13-6-1 ATS in their last 20 home games. Tennessee is 2-5 ATS in its last seven games overall.
Prediction:
The Steelers expect starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to play some here, while the rest of the starters will likely see their snap counts increase. The Titans play a bland style of ball-control offense which can lead to success in the preseason when sometimes it appears as if both teams are sleepwalking, but I like the depth on the Steelers roster a little more. With Dobbs likely to see work fairly deep into the contest, Pittsburgh should be in good hands. I like the Steelers to notch their third straight preseason win here.
