Kizer to start for Browns on Saturday
Are the Cleveland Browns drawing closer to naming rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer their Week 1 starter?
Coach Hue Jackson named Kizer the starter for the Browns' third preseason game. As most know, the third preseason game is often viewed as dress rehearsal for Week 1 of the season, thus, it's fair to speculate that Kizer is closing in on being named the regular-season starter. At the very least, it's Kizer's job to lose.
"He has made a lot of progress by investing the time necessary to learn our offense, working hard to improve on his fundamentals while also effectively moving the offense in preseason games," Jackson said.
"Development is so important for a young quarterback, this is the next step he needs to take and he deserves this opportunity. He is certainly positioning himself well to earn the starting job heading into the regular season."
The Browns will travel to Tampa this Saturday to take on the Buccaneers at 7:30PM ET. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Cleveland is a 3-point road underdog to knock off Tampa Bay at Raymond James Stadium. The over/under currently sits at 42 points.
Through two preseason games, Kizer is 19-of-31 passing for 258 yards and a touchdown. He's also added 47 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Brock Osweiler started the previous two preseason games for the Browns and threw an interception with zero touchdowns. Cody Kessler is also in the mix to start.
