49ers Season Win Prediction
How many games will the San Francisco 49ers win after producing just two victories a year ago?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the 49ers have an over/under of 4.5 for number of wins in 2017. The Niners are also one of the bigger long shots to win the Super Bowl at 300/1 and are 125/1 to win the NFC Conference Championship, which are the longest odds in the conference.
The 49ers made a splash in free agency by signing former Redskins receiver Pierre Garcon for five years at $47.5 million. They also added former Seahawk and Raider linebacker Malcolm Smith, signing him to five years at $26.5 million. Among their other signings included Kyle Juszczyk, Earl Mitchell, Brian Hoyer, Elvis Dumervil and Marquise Goodwin.
The Niners were also praised for their draft after landing two first-round selections. With the third overall pick in the first round, the team selected Stanford defensive tackle Solomon Thomas and with their second selection, they took Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster. After not having a second-round pick, San Francisco nabbed Colorado cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon and Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard in the third. Foruth-rounder Joe Williams of Utah could see some playing time as a rookie.
OUR PREDICTION: I don't think the Niners will lose 14 games again in 2017. New head coach Kyle Shanahan should improve the offense immensely and the Niners are building one of the better young defensive lines in football. This is a more talented team than people presume and while I'm not suggesting they're anywhere close to being a playoff time, I actually believe they'll win five games this season. Thus, I like their over.
