Broncos at 49ers Odds
The last game on Friday’s preseason schedule in the NFL belongs to the Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers, who will square off at Candlestick Park at 10:00 PM ET.
The Denver Broncos had a tumultuous offseason in which they fired long-time head coach Mike Shanahan and replaced him with former New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, only to see their starting quarterback demand a trade as a result.
Jay Cutler was shipped to Chicago via a pre-draft trade in which Denver received two first round picks and former Bears’ starting quarterback Kyle Orton. Orton will now lead an offense that has a solid line and a promising rookie running back in Knowshon Moreno. It still remains to be seen, however, whether or not receiver Brandon Marshall will be suspended and/or traded before the start of the regular season.
The 49ers showed promise last year when Mike Singletary took over the team after Mike Nolan was fired. Singletary’s no-nonsense approach has gained player’s respect, although tight end Vernon Davis still seems to be lacking in the maturity department.
The biggest challenge facing Singletary this season is to figure out whom he’ll start at quarterback. Right now, Alex Smith and Shaun Hill are battling it out, but the job probably won’t be earned until deep into the preseason.
For this game, the 49ers have been made 3-point home favorites according to oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com. The over/under total has been set at 34 for this contest.
The trends in this matchup actually are favorable for both teams, as the Broncos are 20-8 against the spread vs. NFC West opponents during the preseason, and the 49ers are 10-2 over as a home favorite of three points or less.
NFL Preseason Week 1: Broncos at 49ers Odds & Over/Under Totals:
