Patriots at Eagles Odds
Week 1 of the NFL preseason rolls on Thursday night as the Philadelphia Eagles host Tom Brady and the New England Patriots at Lincoln Financial Field at 7:30PM ET.
Brady will see his first live game since suffering a serious knee injury in Week 1 of the regular season last year. Brady has rehabbed and is at full health again, and will start Thursday in Philadelphia.
The Eagles were one win away from appearing in the Super Bowl last year, falling just short in a loss to the Cardinals in the NFC Championship Game. Donovan McNabb returns to Philly for another season and will be aided by the offseason trade acquisition of tackle Jason Peters, who will protect McNabb’s blindside. McNabb will be without running back Brian Westbrook, however, as he’s expected to miss all of the preseason with a foot injury.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Eagles 3-point favorites heading into Thursday’s game. The over/under total has also been set at 33.
The Eagles are a paltry 2-10 against the spread in home games against AFC East division opponents since 1993 and just 10-22 ATS in games where the line is +3 to –3 since ’93. But they are 1-0 ATS versus New England over the last three seasons and 1-0 straight up against the Pats during that span as well.
The last time these two teams met was in November of 2007 when the Patriots knocked off the Eagles 31-28 at Foxboro Stadium. The Pats also defeated the Birds 24-21 in the 2005 Super Bowl and 31-10 in September of 2003.
Game time is set for 7:30PM ET from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia and there’s a chance for rain at kickoff. Both teams are expected to play their regular starters, although they might not get more than a series or two.
