Cowboys vs. 49ers Preseason Prediction
Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers are receiving a lot of hype this offseason as a potential playoff team. Will they beat the Dallas Cowboys in their first preseason matchup of 2018?
Game Snapshot
271 Dallas Cowboys at 272 San Francisco 49ers
Game Time: 10:00 p.m. ET
Location: Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, CA
Betting Odds & Public Betting Information
According to oddsmakers, the 49ers are 3.5-point favorites to beat the Cowboys while the over/under currently sits at 35 points. As of this writing, 60% of betting tickets are on the Cowboys to cover the spread. (Check out Week 1 NFL Preseason Odds)
Dallas Cowboys
ESPN’s Todd Archer reports the Cowboys’ offense has “has struggled in getting the ball down the field” in training camp.
“Still trying to gain chemistry,” Dak Prescott said of his Dez Bryant and Jason Witten-less supporting cast. “It’s going to come.” OC Scott Linehan said “we’ve got to make strides quickly here.” The Cowboys assembled embarrassingly little talent in the wake of Bryant and Witten’s departures. It’s going to be another long season for the Cowboys’ passing attack, making life difficult on Prescott.
San Francisco 49ers
Richard Sherman (hamstring) will be sidelined “at least” one week. Sherman exited Friday’s practice with hamstring tightness and will miss “at least” one week of camp. The aim is that he can return progressively, which means he’ll be inactive for the Niners’ first preseason game versus Dallas Thursday. Sherman will be re-evaluated next week.
Betting Trends
Dallas
The Cowboys are 3-1-1 against the spread in their last five games against the 49ers.
San Francisco
The favorite is 4-0-1 against the number in the last five meetings between these two teams.
Prediction
I think the 49ers are still a year away from clinching a playoff berth but there’s no question they enter this preseason with plenty of confidence after the way they finished the 2017 season. The Cowboys, meanwhile, have issues at wide receiver and the defense still leaves a lot to be desired. I like the Niners to cash in on their offseason hype with a victory and a cover tonight.
NFL Preseason Prediction: San Francisco 49ers -3.5
