According to oddsmakers from online sports book GT Bets, the Vikings are 3.5-point favorites over the Steelers after opening as 2.5-point favorites. As for the total, the number opened at 34.5 and that’s where it currently sits.
Third-year quarterback Landry Jones will make his first NFL start (preseason or otherwise) for the Steelers in tonight’s game. Ben Roethlisberger will rest, as will many of Pittsburgh’s starters as the team looks to avoid injuries ahead of Week 1 of the regular season. While the Steelers don’t have a pre-determined “snap count” ready for Jones, coach Mike Tomlin did say that the young QB will “play a lot.”
Viewers won’t see Roethlisberger and they’re unlikely to see Vikings’ running back Adrian Peterson, who is expected to sit out the entire preseason despite not playing in all but one game last year. As always, Peterson is reportedly in outstanding shape and is familiar with Norv Turner’s playbook. There’s no need to risk injury to Peterson when the Vikings are viewed by many as being sleeper contenders this season.
