Bettors taking under on DAL, CAR
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – Even though the Panthers are coming off a division title and playoff appearance, bettors in Vegas are hammering the under for their 2014 win total.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Panthers’ win total is currently sitting at 8, with the over carrying odds of +135 and the under carrying odds of -165. This means that if you bet the over, you’ll win $135.00 on a $100.00 wager if Carolina wins 9 or more games, and you’ll win $100.00 on a $165.00 wager if you bet the under and the team finishes with 7 or less victories.
Bettors are also betting the under when it comes to the Cowboys, whose total is sitting at 7 for number of regular season wins in 2014. The over carries even odds for Dallas, while the under is carrying -130 and as Sportsbook Manager Kevin Bradley of Bovada.lv explains, the action on the Cowboys have caught the sportsbook’s attention.
“The two teams who have caught my eye taking quite a bit of under money is the Dallas Cowboys dropping from 8 to 7.5 wins and the Carolina Panthers with 80% of the public expecting them to regress from their surprising year in 2013,” Bradley explains.
The Cowboys should have an explosive offense thanks to a now-healthy Tony Romo, Dez Bryant and DeMarco Murray. The offenisve line is also a top-10 unit and Jason Witten continues to be a solid option at tight end. That said, the defense could be brutal after the team lost Sean Lee to a season-ending offseason injury and tries to replace DeMarcus Ware’s pass-rushing ability.
As for the Panthers, they lost three starters along thier offensive line due to retirement and completely revamped their receiving corps in the offseason. Cam Newton and the running game will be solid, but the passing game could struggle, as could the pass defense. The Panthers also play in a competitive division, as the Saints, Falcons and Bucs could all compete for a division title or wild card berth.
Meanwhile, Bovada.lv continues to see a ton of betting action on the Bears, Saints and Patriots.
“NFL win totals continues to take more money than any other future market we have up right now for the NFL and a few teams are really standing out as popular bets,” Bradley said. “The Chicago Bears over 8.5 has taken over 95% of the money but we are comfortable holding the number at 8.5, especially in a pretty competitive division. The Saints and Patriots are seeing the same type of action forcing each of their win totals to move up half a win.”
