2017 AFC East Odds to Win – Patriots remain clear favorite to win Division

Even though they could be without their starting quarterback to start the season, the New England Patriots remain the clear favorites to win the AFC East this upcoming season.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Patriots are -210 to win the AFC East in the 2016-17 season. Those odds make them the clear favorites over the Bills, who are +525, the Jets, who are also +525, and the Dolphins, who have the longest odds to win the division this upcoming season at +800.

Last month, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said there will be no settlement talks between the league and suspended quarterback Tom Brady. Goodell said the courts will decide Brady’s fate after the Second U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reinstated the quarterback’s four-game ban in April. Brady has asked the same court to rehear the case, but as of now Brady will miss the team’s first four game against the Cardinals, Dolphins, Texans and Bills.

Still, New England remains the team to beat because of Brady and Bill Belichick. Even after Tyrod Taylor surprised a year ago by putting together a solid season in Buffalo, no team in the AFC East can match the quarterback-coach combination that the Patriots boast. They’ve won the division every year since 2009 and assuming they can at least split the four games Brady will be out, they should be able to overcome not having their top player out to start the year.

If the -210 is too expensive to lay on the Patriots, the Bills could surprise this season. Buffalo finished 8-8 a year ago but the team is not without talent under Rex Ryan. Taylor, Sammy Watkins and LeSean McCoy form a competitive core on offensive, while youngsters Shaq Lawson, Reggie Ragland and Adolphus Washington were added through the draft this year to help boost the defense. But whether or not Taylor can build off what he accomplished a year ago and all those new faces can make an impact in year one is the question.
