Rams Season Odds
After a disastrous 2008 season, the St. Louis Rams are hoping that new head coach Steve Spagnuolo can turn their fortunes around.
The Rams made one of the better free agent signings this offseason, inking former Baltimore center Jason Brown to a multi-year deal. St. Louis was also able to re-sign one of the more prized free agents on the market in cornerback Ron Bartell and also inked free agent safety James Butler, formerly of the Giants.
The Rams weren’t done upgrading their offensive line with the signing of Brown. They also selected Baylor offensive tackle Jason Smith with the second overall pick and expect him to anchor their left tackle position the way Orlando Pace (who was released) did for so many years. St. Louis also selected linebacker James Laurinaitis in the second round and will likely start him in the middle next season.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL have established the Rams’ odds to win Super Bowl XLIV at 75/1. They’ve also given St. Louis 40/1 odds to win the NFC and 18/1 odds to win the NFC West.
The Rams are still a mess, but Spagnuolo is a smart, innovative coach and should help turn things around soon. How soon? That remains to be seen, but the team did a nice job upgrading the offensive line with Brown and Smith. Running back Steven Jackson is also one of the better players in the league and if he gets a little help from his offensive line, he should have a solid season in ’09. Quarterback Marc Bulger seemingly checked out two years ago after he got a new contract, but maybe he still has one more productive season left in the tank. Defensively, the Rams should be better under Spagnuolo’s (who helped the Giants win a Super Bowl two years ago) guidance and they have some nice young players in Bartell, Laurinaitis, Adam Carriker, Chris Long and Tye Hill.
