Pats-Steelers Week 1 spread drops
FOXBORO, MA (The Spread) – The punishment for the “Deflategate” scandal has been handed down by the NFL and the result of it has had a drastic affect on the Week 1 spread between the Patriots and Steelers.
Quarterback Tom Brady has been suspended four games by the NFL for “conduct detrimental to the league” as a result of his role in “Deflategate.” That means he’ll miss games against the Bills, Jaguars, Cowboys and Steelers, whom the Patriots open against on September 10 when the NFL kicks off its regular season.
New England opened as a 6.5-point home favorite over Pittsburgh for that Week 1 matchup, but the spread is down to 2.5 at several Las Vegas sports books. In fact, places like Westgate Superbook and Stations have the number down to 2 while select sports books list the game as a pick’em.
With Brady suspended, backup Jimmy Garoppolo is in line to start against the Steelers in Week 1. He was drafted in the second round by the Patriots in the 2014 NFL Draft and it would be his first start as a professional.
