Multiple teams interested in No. 1 pick?
CHICAGO, IL (The Spread) – Could teams be trying to trade up to No. 1 in order to select Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston?
Yahoo’s Rand Getlin reports that “multiple teams” have reached out to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in order to gauge their interest in trading the top selection in Thursday night’s NFL draft. Per Getlin, the Bucs “have clearly been listening,” but so far “no proposal has been strong enough for the team to seriously consider.”
The Bucs released veteran quarterback Josh McCown in March and have only Mike Glennon on their roster as a viable starter under center. Thus, it would still appear that the Bucs will be selecting Winston with the top pick and not trading out. Simply put, they need a signal-caller.
The bigger possibility is that the Titans trade the No. 2 overall pick in order for a team to land Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota. Tennessee drafted Zach Mettenberger in the sixth-round last year and could be looking to trade the selection for multiple picks in order to restock their roster. Or, they could just take Mariota and make him the new face of the future.
