Jets planning to trade up in the draft?
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ (The Spread) – Could the Jets be planning to trade up in the first round of this month’s NFL draft?
According to ESPN New York’s Rich Cimini, Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan “hasn’t ruled out” the possibility of trading up from the No. 6 overall pick in this year’s draft. With Geno Smith the team’s current starting quarterback, the target of a trade up for the Jets would likely be Florida State signal-caller Jameis Winston.
Winston is reportedly highly regarded in the Jets’ organization, although it would likely take the team trading all the way up to the No. 1 overall pick in order to secure Winston. That’s because the consensus is that Winston will come off the board to the Buccaneers with that top selection.
Granted, it’s hard to take any report seriously at this time of year. Teams fuel speculation via the media in efforts to help position themselves for the draft. We’ll see what happens at the end of the month.
