Seahawks trade for Jimmy Graham
SEATTLE, WA (TheSpread) – Tuesday was the start of NFL free agency, but the biggest news of the day was the Seattle Seahawks acquiring Jimmy Graham from the New Orleans Saints.
Jay Glazer of Fox Sports first reported the news that the Saints are sending Graham to the Seahawks for Seattle center Max Unger and multiple draft picks. Graham has been the dominant tight end in the NFL for many seasons, having 85 receptions or more in his last four seasons, while tallying two seasons of over 1,000 yards and three seasons with at least 10 touchdowns.
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Seattle Seahawks entered the free agent period with 11/2 odds to win Super Bowl 50 next season while the Saints had 25/1 odds. Those odds will likely change once the free agent period settles.
Graham gives Seattle and quarterback Russell Wilson a legitimate passing threat that it has lacked despite being the two-time defending NFC champion. The Seahawks averaged just 203.1 yards per game through the air last season. New Orleans is losing its top pass-catching option in its high-powered offense. Graham has 386 receptions for 4,752 yards and 51 touchdowns in his five-year career.
