Super Bowl 50 Betting Recap: Broncos, Von Miller cash big for bettors

Before we say goodbye to the 2015-16 NFL season, here's one final look at how Super Bowl 50 unfolded for bettors.

Broncos Win Outright as Dogs

The Broncos were anywhere from a 4.5-point to a 6-point underdog at kickoff for Super Bowl 50. With their 24-10 victory, they won outright by as much as 20.5 points. With over 65% of betting tickets on the Panthers to cover, the Broncos made plenty of sports books happy by winning outright.

Under Cashes Relatively Easy

The total opened at 45 for Super Bowl 50 but dropped to 43 by kickoff. The line movement proved justified, as the combined score fell under the total by nine full points. The first-half under of 22 also cashed, although just barely as the two teams combined for 20 first-half points.

Von Miller Hits Big as MVP

Broncos' pass-rusher Von Miller was listed at 25/1 to win Super Bowl MVP, so bettors that took a flier on him cashed big. Miller was credited with 2.5 sacks, two more quarterback hits, six tackles (five solo), and a pass breakup. He dominated Carolina offensive tackle Mike Remmers throughout the game and was a well-deserved Super Bowl MVP.

Odds & Ends

Mike Carey opened with -140 odds to be wrong about at least one challenge but the odds closed at +110. He was wrong about a Carolina challenge in the first quarter that would have reversed a call of no-catch.

Lady Gaga made over bettors happy when she took 2:23.5 to sing the National Anthem.

Bettors also cashed with +260 odds on whether or not there would be a 2-point conversion. The Broncos made those bettors happy with their successful 2-point conversion in the fourth quarter, which was also the final score of the game.

With the Broncos' first-half defensive touchdown, bettors that took D/ST Teams TD at +145 also hit.

Orange was the favorite to be the color of liquid to dose the winning head coach at the end of the game. Orange had odds of +130, and that's exactly what the color was dumped on Denver head coach Gary Kubiak in the closing seconds of Super Bowl 50.
