Can DEN stop the CAR run game?
The Carolina Panthers have been able to run all over most opponents, but can the Denver Broncos shutdown the Panthers’ ground game at Super Bowl 50?
According to oddsmakers at RealBets, Carolina is currently a 5.5-point favorite in Sunday’s game with the Broncos, while the over/under total has been set at 45 points. These two meet on Sunday, Feb. 7 at 6:30PM ET from Levi’s Stadium. The game will air live on CBS. When it comes to the Panthers rushing for 100 yards or more, oddsmakers have set the line at -500. The odds for Denver to hold Carolina under 100 rushing yards is listed at +300.
The Panthers are on a roll right now, having rushed for 100 yards or more in 31 straight games. Cam Newton is always a serious rushing threat and Jonathan Stewart has had a strong 2015 season. For the season, Carolina is averaging 142.6 yards per game on the ground, which ranks second in the NFL. However, the Panthers face the Broncos defense this Sunday and Denver ranks third in the NFL in rush defense, allowing just 83.6 yards per game on the ground.
Despite Denver being stout against the run, the Panthers were able to rack up 144 rushing yards against the Seahawks a few weeks back thanks to 106 yards from Stewart. The Broncos only allowed 100 rushing yards to opposing running backs in one game during the season and they also gave up just 194 rushing yards to quarterbacks for the whole season. In the playoffs, Denver has held Pittsburgh to 85 yards rushing and New England to just 44 yards.
