Super Bowl XLVI Las Vegas Odds
(The Spread) – The point spread continues to move for Sunday’s Super Bowl tilt between the Giants and Patriots. Where do the odds stand right now in Las Vegas?
The spread for the Super Bowl opened at New England –3 and 55.5 for the total, but different sports books have different odds right now.
For example, the Las Vegas Hilton currently lists the Patriots at –3 but the total is down a full point to 54.5, while the MGM Mirage lists the Giants as a 2.5-point underdog and the over/under is sitting at 55. At the Wynn LV, the Patriots are –3 and the total is 55, while Caesars lists the Giants as a 3-point dog and the total is 54.5.
The majority of the early money is reportedly coming in on the Giants, although that could certainly change leading up to kickoff. Most sports books appear to be playing with two numbers: 3 and 2.5. When they drop to 2.5, they usually move back up to 3 within the day.
The Giants beat Wes Welker’s Patriots outright as a 9-point underdog in Foxboro last November, and pulled off a 17-14 upset of New England in the 2008 Super Bowl as a 12.5-point underdog. But before those two games, the Patriots beat the Giants 38-35 in Week 17 of the 2007 regular season and 17-6 back in October of 2003. New York is 8-1 against the spread in its last nine playoff games while New England is just 1-7 ATS in its last eight postseason contests.
