Giants vs. Packers Prediction

Giants vs. Packers NFL Wildcard Weekend Playoff Predictions 1/8/17

Will the Packers cover as a home favorite today when they host the Giants in the NFL Wildcard Weekend playoff matchup at 4:40PM ET?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Packers are 5.5-point home favorites versus the Giants while the over/under currently sits at 44.5 points. Both the total and the point spread have moved off the original numbers posted by oddsmakers, with Green Bay moving from -4.5 to -5.5 and the total dropping slightly from 45 down to 44.5.

NEW YORK KEY TRENDS: The Giants are a perfect 9-0 against the spread in their last nine road playoff games and are a perfect 4-0 at the betting window in their last four postseason games overall. They're also 5-1-1 against the spread in their last seven games when facing a team with a winning record, are 5-1 against the number in their last six games played in January and are 4-1 against the spread in their last five wildcard playoff games.

GREEN BAY KEY TRENDS: The Packers are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games overall and are 4-1 against the number in their last five home games. They have also covered in four of their last five playoff games, are 4-1 against the spread in their last five conference games, and have covered in five of their last six games coming off a win.

OUR PREDICTION: Eli Manning and the Giants have seemed to have the magic recipe to beat the Packers in Green Bay. But they key to the Giants covering the spread today and possibly winning outright is running back Paul Perkins. The Giants haven't had a running game all season but  the rookie Perkins is coming off a solid effort against the Redskins in Week 17 and if New York's running game is decent today, the G-Men will keep things close. Why this point spread is moving up in favor of Green Bay is interesting, but I'm not going to over-think this one: Don't bet against Playoff Eli.
