TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) – Kent State’s second-year head coach Darrell Hazell is downplaying his team’s return to the rankings this week. That’s because there’s a bigger prize at stake right now.
The No. 25 Golden Flashes can clinch a spot in its first Mid-American Conference title game with a victory over Bowling Green on Saturday.
Kent State (9-1, 6-0 MAC) already has its first winning season in 11 years.
The Flashes have also set a set a school record for most wins in a season.
But a loss to Bowling Green (7-3, 5-1) would give the Falcons the inside track to the MAC East Division title and the league championship game in Detroit.
Kent State has one of the top rushing offenses in the nation with two backs who’ve topped 1,000 yards this season.
