MADISON, Wis. (AP) -Wisconsin wide receiver Kyle Jefferson was taken off the field in an ambulance after a hard hit late in the second quarter of Saturday’s game against Minnesota.
Jefferson caught a pass from Dustin Sherer in Minnesota territory and was wrapped up by cornerback Traye Simmons, then was hit hard by linebacker Simoni Lawrence and fumbled the ball. A television replay showed that Lawrence’s shoulder connected with Jefferson’s helmet.
Jefferson lay motionless on the ground for several minutes as he was surrounded by trainers and teammates. He was lifted onto a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance about eight minutes after he hit the ground, with his arms strapped to his sides.
The school did not provide any immediate update on his condition.
Jefferson, a sophomore, came into Saturday’s game fourth on the team with 13 catches for 179 yards.
