PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Temple defensive tackle Kamal Johnson has been arrested on charges stemming from an alleged assault on his girlfriend, also a student at the university in Philadelphia.
Police spokeswoman Tanya Little said the 20-year-old junior was arraigned Saturday on felony kidnapping and misdemeanor charges. Bail was set at $25,000. He remained in custody Saturday night.
The girlfriend told police Thursday she and Johnson had an argument Sept. 27 and he dragged her out of her apartment and held her in his apartment before letting her go. She told police she suffered bruises and contusions.
A preliminary hearing for Johnson was scheduled for Oct. 23.
At a news conference, Temple coach Steve Addazio had no comment on Johnson’s arrest or his status with the team after a 37-28 win against South Florida.
