PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Temple defensive tackle Kamal Johnson has been arrested on charges stemming from an alleged assault on his girlfriend, also a student at the university in Philadelphia.
The Philadelphia Inquirer (bit.ly/QFf6pk) reported the 20-year-old junior was arraigned Saturday on felony kidnapping and misdemeanor charges. Bail was set at $25,000.
Temple spokesman Raymond Betzner said the girlfriend told campus police Thursday she was assaulted Sept. 27 at her apartment in a building where the university leases several floors. City police are now handling the case. A spokesman did not return a call Saturday.
A hearing for Johnson was scheduled for Oct. 23.
Temple coach Steve Addazio told the paper he would not comment on Johnson’s arrest or his status with the team. An athletic department spokesman did not return messages left Saturday.
