MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) – West Virginia and Penn State are renewing their football rivalry.
West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck said Thursday the teams will meet in State College, Pa., on Sept. 2, 2023, and in Morgantown on Aug. 31, 2024.
They last met in 1992. The series ended when Penn State moved to the Big Ten.
“I know how exciting it was to play in Beaver Stadium and to have the Nittany Lions come to Morgantown,” said Luck, who played quarterback at WVU from 1978-81. “I think the renewal of this series will be great for the fan bases of the two schools as both locations provide an easy drive.
“Both universities have rich traditions and history, and to be able to revive the memories and the fun is what makes college football so special.”
Penn State leads the series 48-9-2 that dates back to 1904. It’s the third-longest series for the Mountaineers, behind rivalries with Pittsburgh (104 times) and Syracuse (60).
