BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) -Montana State scored in nearly every way possible Saturday in a 61-7 rout of Division II Dixie State.
Jack Rolovich passed for 221 yards and two touchdowns, three running backs scored, and the Bobcats (1-1) returned a blocked field goal, a punt and an interception for a score.
MSU, ranked 20th in the Sports Network FCS poll, started the scoring with a field goal and a safety and scored their final touchdown on a 62-yard interception return by true freshman linebacker Dan Ogden, who had expected to redshirt this year.
Rolovich hit Tyler Lulay on a 38-yard scoring pass with 4:35 left in the first quarter and completed a 72-yard pass play to Deon Toliver with 5:36 left in the third quarter.
Running backs Isaiah Taito, Demetrius Crawford and Aaron Mason all scored in the second quarter, giving the Bobcats a 33-0 lead with 4:20 left in the half.
Dixie State (2-2) got its only touchdown on a 5-yard pass from Skyler Ence to Kyser Christensen with 56 seconds left in the half.
The Bobcats had four big scoring plays in the third quarter.
Kory Austin returned a blocked field goal attempt 86 yards for a touchdown, and four minutes later returned a punt 85 yards for a score. MSU went up 54-7 on the long scoring pass from Rolovich to Toliver and wrapped up the scoring with Ogden’s big return.
M two weeks ago – kicked a 30-yard field goal on MSU’s first possession and made all eight extra points.
MSU’s safety came when a punt snap by Dixie State rolled through the end zone.
