SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -Kevious Johnson and Andy Strickland had two touchdowns each and the defense had five interceptions to lead Wofford to a 52-24 win Saturday night against Charleston Southern.
The Terriers (2-0) had 448 yards of total offense, including an 89-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Mike Rucker.
The Buccaneers (0-2) were led by Eli Byrd, who went 28 of 46 for 264 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.
Wofford started the scoring when Johnson capped a six-play, 58-yard drive with a 9-yard touchdown run with 11:06 left in the first quarter.
The Buccaneers responded with an 11-play drive of 75 yards, capped by a 3-yard Kenny Harper scoring run to tie the game. But Rucker returned the ensuing kickoff to give Wofford a 14-7 lead.
After two more Wofford scores, Charleston Southern cut the lead to 28-14 when Eli Byrd found Tim Jones for a score one play after the Bucs recovered a fumbled punt.
An interception set up another Wofford score to put the Terriers up 35-14. With just 25 seconds left in the first half, Huger caught a 2-yard scoring pass from Byrd. The half ended with the Terriers up 35-21 lead.
Charleston Southern finished its scoring early in the second half with a 34-yard Nick Ellis field goal with 7:10 left in the third.
Interceptions set up the next three scores for the Terriers, the last coming on a 15-yard Rucker run with 39 seconds left in the game.
