LORETTO, Pa. (AP) -Jerrod Pendleton scored three touchdowns to lead Morehead State to a 21-14 win over St. Francis, Pa. on Saturday.
Morehead State (1-0) opened the scoring with an eight-play, 72-yard drive capped by Pendleton’s 6-yard run with 7:35 left in the first quarter.
Pendleton found the end zone again with 12:43 left in the second quarter on a 15-yard pass from Brian Yost. The touchdown came three plays after Eagles linebacker Andrew Sturzenbecker recovered a fumble at the St. Francis 22.
Max Hammond connected on the first extra point attempt, but failed on the second, as Morehead State took a 13-0 lead into halftime.
St. Francis (0-1) began a comeback in the second half. George Little capped a six-play, 80-yard drive with a 32-yard touchdown pass to Troy Eison with 0:01 left in the third quarter.
St. Francis scored again 22 seconds later on a 1-yard run by Little. The two-play, 25-yard drive was set up by Red Flash safety Antawn Coleman’s interception and return of 17 yards. Adam Sciulli connected on both extra points, which gave St. Francis a 14-13 lead.
Morehead State regained the lead with an 11-play, 66-yard drive. Yost capped the drive with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Pendleton with 4:05 left. Yost and Pendleton also connected on the two-point conversion.
Yost completed 14 of 24 passes for 139 yards. Little completed 17 of 38 passes for 290 yards.
