PINEVILLE, La. (AP) -Juan Joseph threw five touchdown passes, one of them 88 yards, as Millsaps beat Louisiana College 44-10 Saturday night.
He wound up with 307 of 521 offensive yards for Millsaps (1-1), while the defense allowed the Wildcats only 159 yards in their season opener.
The long bomb – Joseph’s third scoring pass, late in the second quarter – made Eric McCarty the Majors’ top receiver for the night, with 123 yards and a touchdown on three catches.
It also put the score at 24-0 before Louisiana College got its first score, on John Babineaux’ 43-yard field goal.
Donnie Epps (4-for-31) caught Joseph’s first and fourth scoring passes, for 3 and 8 yards.
Millsaps’ other touchdowns were on a 9-yard pass from Joseph to Louis Conley, a 5-yard throw to Josh Maharrey late in the third quarter, and a 2-yard pass from Burt Pereira to J.R. Burnett in the fourth quarter.
