WHITEWATER, Wis. (AP) -Jeff Donovan passed for two touchdowns and Jeremy Diebert scored on a 20-yard interception return, leading Wisconsin-Whitewater to a 24-9 victory over St. Xavier on Friday night the season opener for both teams.
Whitewater, the defending NCAA Division III national champions, opened the scoring with a 1-yard TD pass from Donovan to Nick Slupski. Diebert made it 14-0 on his 20-yard interception return with 2:16 left in the first quarter.
Jeff Schebler added a 26-yard field goal early in he second quarter.
A 23-yard field goal by A.J. Nichols late in the second quarter got St. Xavier on the board.
Anthony Kropp, who passed for 293 yards, connected with Bill McKeon for a 39-yard TD pass to cap a 91-yard drive and pull St. Xavier to 17-9 late in the third quarter.
Donovan hit Jordan Wells for a 6-yard TD pass in the final quarter.
