KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Tennessee wide receiver Devrin Young is expected to miss four to six weeks after breaking his hand during practice Tuesday.
Volunteers coach Butch Jones announced the severity of Young’s injury and the length of time he would be sidelined while responding to a fan’s question on his “Vol Calls” radio show Wednesday. Jones described the injury as “kind of a fluke thing” and said Young slipped while running a route and put his hand out to brace his fall.
Young moved to wide receiver this spring after rushing for 140 yards on 33 carries last season. He caught a 9-yard touchdown pass, had a 58-yard kickoff return and also returned two punts for 21 yards last week in a 45-0 victory over Austin Peay.
Tennessee hosts Western Kentucky on Saturday.
