BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) -Sean Glennon will be Virginia Tech’s starting quarterback this year while sophomore Tyrod Taylor redshirts.
Hokies coach Frank Beamer said Tuesday that Cory Holt will begin the season as the nominal backup, but Taylor would be likely to play if Glennon couldn’t.
Glennon began last season as the Hokies’ starter, but was replaced by Taylor after a slow start. Glennon got a second chance midway through the season when Taylor was injured, and reclaimed the job by playing well.
The senior was chosen most valuable player in the Hokies’ victory over Boston College in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game.
No. 17 Virginia Tech opens its season Saturday against East Carolina in Charlotte, N.C.
